What is Chiropractic?

The word ‘chiropractic’ comes from the Greek words cheir (meaning ‘hand’) and praktos (meaning ‘done’), i.e., done by hand. Chiropractic involves adjusting the vertebrae of the spine and/or other joints in order to restore quality motion and normal biomechanics. This leads to optimal neurological function which contributes to overall health in the body. Manual adjustments are gentle, specific, high speed and low force. They are not “cracking”, “popping” or moving anything that is “out” back into place. This language is misleading and does not honor the true nature of a chiropractic adjustment.

Chiropractic is a philosophy, science and art.

We know that every living organism is a self-regulating, self-healing entity controlled by the nervous system. Therefore, the goal of chiropractic care is to restore or maintain normal movement to spine and components of the musculoskeletal system by removing subluxations (restrictions) that alter normal function and communication to the brain.

Animal chiropractic can be used as part of an integrative wellness program to maintain an animal’s health, as healthy animals are also candidates for receiving chiropractic care. Maintaining proper movement allows for optimal function of muscles, nerves, tendons, and ligaments, which leads to improved mobility, flexibility, endurance, performance, and decreased risk of injury. In addition, due to chiropractic’s effect on the nervous system, dysfunction often leads to issues such as pain, stiffness, delayed healing, poor digestion, sleep disturbance and behavioral changes.

Remember, pain is the LAST indicator the body gives that it is struggling to maintain itself. Prevention stops illness, injury, disease and aliments before they start. All spines deserve chiropractic care!
